Inspired by a trip to Rouen's natural history museum, this piece was created with love and 40 hand-cut paper butterflies + reproductions of real antique specimen labels. It is not possible to open or remove the butterflies, which are housed securely under glass in their hand-painted cabinet. The lower front panel of the cabinet reads "le monde du papillons" in antique script. The sides of the cabinet read "tout l'univers connu" and "Musée d'histoire naturelle," translated from French to mean:
"the world of butterflies"
"all the known universe"
"natural history museum"
In other words, the perfect addition to your own miniature museum or cabinet of curiosity.
Please note, the last two listing photos show this piece in progress on my work desk. This listing is for the cabinet only, and does not include any additional loose accessories.
